Press Release: Modem (How to Maintain College Life)

Organization is a social unit of people that is structured and managed to pursue collective goals. All organizations have a management structure that determines relationships between the different activities and the members, subdivides and assigns roles, responsibilities, and authority to carry out different tasks. Organization is a place where people interact to achieve a common goal more effectively and efficiently.

One of Human Resources Development Commission of IFSA LC UGM projects is MODEM. What is MODEM? It is Monthly Development Meeting of HRD member. So, why is MODEM important? Because, it has an important aspect for improving the productivity of human resources and also has certain goals that must be achieved for the development of our organization.

The HRD Commission of IFSA LC UGM has held Monthly Development Meeting (MODEM) on 6th May 2017 in Living Space Café. The theme of this 1st MODEM was “How to be Responsible”. The material was given by Filigon Adiguna Puspoyudo from FEB UGM 2013. Filigon has had a lot of experience in organization and committees that made him worth sharing his knowledge with us, especially about how to be a responsible person in the organization and committee. He is also a head of division, he knows how to make a person to be consistent in the organization or committee.

The first material was about how to support an organization. There were several ways to support an organization, for example giving something that the members wanted. It could be applied in a system called retention and motivation, like reward for staff of the month. Then, introducing the members about check-in and check-out culture which was about being on time. The members who arrived late would not be punished, but members who arrived on time would be given a chance to tell them about what they have sacrificed in order to arrive on time. One thing that we should know that organization is education, not professionalism. Although in the organization we also learn about professionalism, but as a college student, we have to balance our academic, personal, and social life because those things are also important.
