PRESS RELEASE OF THE 48TH MID-INTERSESSIONAL MEETING OF SUBSIDIARY BODIES OF UNFCCC

Greetings, everyone!

We would like to share our experiences during the 48th Mid-intersessional Meeting of Subsidiary Bodies of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC SB 48.2) which was held on 4th – 9th September 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. This particular event facilitated the meeting of Subsidiary Bodies for Sciencetific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), Subsidiary Bodies for Implementation (SBI), and the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA). SBSTA and SBI work together to address issues related to the vulnerability of developing countries against climate change and prevention actions done by developed countries. SBSTA and SBI generally hold two meetings in a year.

On September 3rd 2018, IFSA delegates attended the YOUNGO preparatory session. This session was held by YOUNGO to prepare youth participation during the UNFCCC SB 48.2. YOUNGO is a constituency representing youth and children in the UNFCCC session. delegates who are members of YOUNGO must attend this session to get basic knowledges about the UNFCCC session, which includes the birth history of UNFCCC, working bodies within the UNFCCC as well as the latest developments of several international agreements resulted from the UNFCCC session (Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement). In addition, the youth delegates present were also given an explanation regarding YOUNGO’s role as representatives of youth and children within the UNFCCC. In the middle of the session, the delegation from IFSA had the opportunity to get acquainted with several delegates from Gambia, Malaysian Youth Delegation (MYD), and the British Columbian Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC).

PRESS RELEASE APRM 2018 DAY 1

APRM 2018 was held on May 28th until June 3rd 2018 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, the Philippines. The delegate from IFSA LC UGM was Galuh Anggara, General Forestry 2017.

I (Galuh Anggara) went to Puerto Princesa from Jakarta on May 28th 2018 at 00.45 and arrived in Puerto Princesa International Airport on May 28th 2018 at 12.05 with transit in Manila, Ninoy Aquino International Airport. When arrived in Puerto Princesa International Airport, I met other delegates. They were Hiroki, Tomo, and Yutaro, from Japan. After that we went to the hotel.

Finally, we arrived at Marianne Hotel. Then we decided to take my lunch with other delegates. They were Hiroki, Tomo, Yutaro, Misaki from Japan, Soo Rin and Seo Hyun from South Korea, Jojo, Niko, and Eumi from the Philippines. We enjoyed our lunch together and back to the hotel for starting registration.

Press Release: 2nd Wall Magazine “IFSA LC UGM in The 3rd Asia-Pacific Rainforest Summit: Youth Representative in Combating Climate Change and Environmental Issues”

The 3rd Asia-Pacific Rainforest Summit (APRS) “Protecting Forests and People, Supporting Economic Growth”

APRS is part of the Asia-Pacific Rainforest Partnership (APRP), which supports the implementation of the Paris Climate Change Agreement and encourages the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in the region. This year, APRS was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 23rd until 25th April 2018 with the theme “Protecting forests and people, supporting economic growth”. The 3rd Asia-Pacific Rainforest Summit (APRS) comes after the landmark global agreements reached in 2015 through the Paris Climate Change Agreement and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (cifor.org).

The 3rd APRS have seven subthemes which form a starting point for the selection of discussion topics. The seven subthemes consist of:

  • Forests in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)
  • Restoration and Sustainable Management of Peatlands
  • Forest Finance, Investment and Trade
  • Production Forests
  • Community Forestry
  • Ecotourism and Conservation of Biodiversity
  • Mangroves and Blue Carbon

Press Release : 1st English Group Discussion (ERUPSION)

The Amphiteater UGM, April 13th, 2018 — The Forestry Education and Language Commission of IFSA LC UGM had held the English Group Discussion (ERUPSION) on April 13th, 2018, in order to gave the participants more information about some topics that would be discussed in 3rd Asia-Pacific Rainforest Summit (APRS). The participants of this discussion are the members of IFSA LC UGM. The speaker of this discussion is Mr. Andita Aulia Pratama, S.Hut., M.Sc., usually known as Mr. Dito. Mr.Dito is one of IFSA LC UGM alumni and also a lecturer of Faculty of Forestry UGM. The aim of this event is to increase the knowledge of IFSA LC UGM members about rainforest, but we focused on Forests Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Forest Investment and Trade, and also Community Forestry.
